The railway station in Liberty syle, the English library and the Anglican church , which today hosts important estimed exhibitions, are all testimony of the international success of Alassio back to the end of the 1800s when it was the favourite destination of British gentry who used to come to spend the winter on the ligurian Occitan coast.
Among the attractions of the wealth of heritage of this town are. the church of St Ambrose which was erected in the second half of the 15th century on the ruins of another church dating back to the 10th century and the Shrine of Madonna della Guardia requested and built by the sailors of Alassio as a chapel to watch over the "Stella Maris" defending the valley below. Several archaeological trails hint to pleasant walks like those that lead to the little churches of Madonna delle Grazie and the 13th century church of Santa Croce.
For those who love the sea not to be missed is Punta Murena, a little corner of paradise among the rocks and "calette." ???
