Costarainera Territory:

Costarainera is a village of 801 inhabitants, it is in an excellent geographic position, sitting half-way up a hill overlooking the coast at 240mt above sea level and about 12km from the chief town, Imperia. ( More Less )

Costarainiera enjoys a particularly healthy micro-climate thanks to Mount Saccarello , which offers shelter from the northerly winds ,Monte Faudo which shelters it from low-pressure areas, and the movements of the nearby Ligurian sea., in fact it is an ideal treatment zone.

Costarainera is divided between the hamlet in the hills and the modern area (Paorelli area) by the sea.In the Paorelli area now mainly residential and touristic , because of its climate it has seen a devolopment of viticuture and then floriculture. From the top of the area one can admire a seaview and higher up from the ancient watchtower , on a clear winter’s day,you can see Corsica, the mountains of Tuscany and Provence right up to Cap Camarat. .

Cultural Costarainera:

The church of Sant'Antonio Abate Is a religious building in Regione Sotto in Costarainiera in the province of Imperia. It is the seat of the parish of the same name of the parsonage of Levante and Argentina valley of the diocese of Ventimiglia-Sanremo built by the Benedictines between XII and XIII century, and later re-worked. It rises in a spectacular panoramic position on the crest of a hill which, on one side overlooks the sea and on the other side the hinterland., it is fenced off with a graveyard at the back. The church, in romanesque -style displays a XIV century gothic gate.

The three aisled inside has a rare characteristic partition in the centre of the central aisle and decorated with XVI century spanish ornamental tiling and a magnificent baptismal font scuptured in one single stone block dating back to XIV century. The church still preserves part of the original slab flooring, as well as the stone columns partially incorporated into pillars during later re-constructing.Inside,L'interno,

The bell-tower gate is dominated by a lintel in black stone, with an Ecce Homo of the XV century.

Events in Costarainera:

Every summer there are numerous “Sagre” or Feasts in the main square, with typical dishes of Liguria and a large dance floor with orchestras. Among the events of the territory is that of the patron Saint John the Baptist on June 24 and ,in October, the Chestnut Feast.
