Orco Feglino

A commune of the hinterland of Finale Ligure in the upper Aquila valley, Orco Feglino is immersed in greenery, surrounded by orchards and vineyards which produce good Lumassina and Barbarossa. It is made up of two dwelling nucleuses: Feglino in the valley bottom near the stream, and Orco on a ridge. The union of these two villages came in 1869. Included in the Marca Aleramica, it was a possession first of Bonifacio Del Vasto and then in 1142 of the Del Carretto marquises, who built a medieval castle there, from which some ruins of walls and a 10th-century keep are extant at Orco. The village of Boragni, on a rocky ridge that dominates the Sciusa valley, is a quaint Mediterranean village, with bare stone houses forming a compact nucleus. The wild environment of the Aquila valley is crossed by charming paths, among them “the Finale Ring” which affords an interesting walk and a visit to two caves: the Arma di Strapatente and the Grotta di Balconi. There are also numerous rock walls for those who love free climbing.
