The territory of Arenzano is part of the Regional Nature Park of Beigua, it is 2/3 mountainous extending from the coast up towards the crest of Monte Beigua and to the tops of Mount Rama (1,148mt) and Mount Argentea (1,082mts)
The principal rivers are the Lerone ,Cantarena and Lissolo streams.
According to historians , the first settlement dates back to the Roman period in the first centuries AD, Arentianis being the property of the ancient Ligurian family, Arentii. As for other nearby villages and hamlets there was then the period of the dark ages followed by the middle ages, the historic vicissitude of Genoa. During the middle ages it suffered barbarian invasions and in the 10th century it was occupied by Saracen pirates who made it a fortified defense. Later on it fell under the Republic of Genoa.
With the advent of the napoleonic domination, which caused the fall of the Republic of Genoa, Arenzano was returned to being part of the region of Cerusa, then on to become part of the Republic of Sardinia. Finally ,in 1861, it became part of the Reign of Italy.
Towards the end of the 19th century, the beginning of a new industrial era forced many people to migrate to the western Riviera, in particular to the agricultural area of Albenga and the city of Genova and also to the Americas.
After World War II the shipyard industry brought about the birth and devolpment of tourism, converting many shipyards into seaside resorts.
There are numerous cultural events ,among which, theatre shows, poetry reading and two different literary competitions, for age and subject matter; Vivo delle Tecnologie per l'Ambiente (Muvita) dedicated to environmental themes and multidisciplinare projects.
