Territory of Monterosso al Mare:

Monterosso al Mare is in the centre of a small natural gulf protected by an artificial cliff, it is the most western village of the Cinque Terre. ( More Less )

Eugenio Montale , the poet, spent many summers there in his youth; it is a typical ligurian seaside village with narrow cobbled streets , colourful houses with arches and vaults and fishing boats and is part of National Park of the Cinque Terre.

Cultural Monterosso al Mare:

The splendid parish church dedicated to San Giovanni Battista was built between 1244 and 1307, the belfry was originally a watchtower. Of particular interest are the facade and rose window in genovese style.

The chapel of Nostra Signora di Soviore (X/XI century) is above Monterosso 464 a.s.l., parts of the building dating back to IX century were brought to light during its restoration.

More recent is the statue of the Gigante, 1910, a sculpture by A. Minerbio di Ferrara, situated at the end of the promenade of Fegina.

In the area of Fegina, built at the beginning of the XX century, is the house where Eugenio Montale, 1975 Nobel Prize for Literature, used to stay.
