Merana is an Italian municipality of 192 inhabitants in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont.
Immersed in the green of the ridges, hill crests and in the badlands right down to the bottom of the valley ; rural roads and trails wind along the canals and lead to other villages, some of which in the province of Savona.
Climbing up we come to the marl of the Formazione di Rocchetta with its fascinating badlands. Its marl deposit sediments give space to the Formazione di Monesiglio, made up of yellow and reddish coarse sand . The pathway becomes a unique rockery from which appear various forms which are like sculptures. This is the erosion effect.
Historic religious buildings are present in the territory like the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta ,inaugurated in 1941 substituting the pre-existing one located on the hill of San Fermo.
We must also mention the tower of San Fermo: built in Langa stone , it is 25 mts high and rises on the hill of the same name dominating the village.
