Rising on the high ground overhanging the sea from Mount Sant' Elena, Bergeggi is today a renowned seaside town even for the people of Liguria.
The history of Bergeggi actually identifies itself with that of its little rocky island rich in vegetation and situated in front of the coast and for the beauty of its beaches.
In 1985 the Regional Natural Reserve of Bergeggi was created,then from 2007 a Marine sanctuary to protect wild nature from chalky cliffs which alternate in small recessed beaches cut off by caves like the Grotta Marina and the Grotta del Treno which make it an enchanting place. There are a number of opportunities for sports lovers and those who love the outdoors: from trekking on the botanic route, the views inside the grottos to hang-gliding, from canoeing to diving, these places are ideal for those who choose to have a holiday in the sign of the sea and the outdoors.
